USING DANDELION ROOT TO MAINTAIN GOOD DIGESTION THROUGHOUT THE HOLIDAY SEASON

It works!  Here is a formula for maintaining proper digestion for good health that I have used to help maintain a working digestive system keeping everything in balance.  I will highlight a couple of different herbal remedies that I recommend for a healthy digestion.  An excellent preventative and treatment for many gastrointestinal problems that I highly recommend is dandelion root.

Formulation=decoction.

Much of this boiling will enhance the body’s ability to assimilate the constituents that are already in the dandelion

Add 5-10 mL of dandelion tincture 3 times a day

It could be added to one cup of dandelion tea or regular tea

Dandelion does not cause any side effects known.  It helps to stimulate the healthy release of bile.  It is a liver and gallbladder tonic helping increase strength and vitality to the tissues of these organs.  Dandelion helps stimulate appetite and aids in digestive secretions (HCl).  I chose this particular herb due to its cooling effect on the body (Yin), which helps in the detoxification process, also.

The method of preparation for this remedy is by adding 5-10 mL of dandelion tincture to a tea and consuming it in liquid form.  I recommend tea form because much of the medicinal constituents present in the dandelion are enhanced and better utilized and absorbed by the body.

One can take this remedy six days a week taking one random day a week off.  Continue this sequence for about three weeks to a month and then take a few days off.  Proceed for one month to a year taking this herbal remedy (length of time depends on individual response and specific needs).  You can alternate by drinking a cup of tea with 5-10 mL of the tincture mixed or have a cup of dandelion tea with the tincture added.  Drink one cupful twice a day.

Additionally, three times a week, I recommend to alternate each week or two with one of the following herbs:  ginger root or peppermint leaf.  Ginger root has a warming effect (Yang) and is helpful by increasing peripheral circulation.  This can be consumed in natural, solid form with a meal (fish preferably).  This is a favorite in many oriental dishes such as sushi with ginger.  Ginger has an antispasmodic effect helping the muscles in the digestive tract relax.  Peppermint leaf has similar effects and may be a more likable taste for people.  This herb can be consumed in a capsule form with a meal or in a tea form with cream or milk.  This is one of the best remedies for stomach problems helping eliminate heartburn, calming the stomach, aids in absorbing intestinal gas.  Moreover, peppermint helps prevent many strains of bacteria from harboring in unwanted gastrointestinal regions of your body.

Happy Microflora!
